Calm bedroom wall art
The bedroom wall is the last thing you see before the light goes off and the first thing you see in the morning. Most people leave it blank, or hang whatever was on sale. Then they wonder why the room never feels like rest.
Still water is the calmest thing I know how to draw. Ice, a lake that isn't moving, a night sky over the ocean. Nothing in these pieces asks for your attention. You look at them and your shoulders drop.
Which size goes above the bed
Measure the bed, then aim for art about two thirds of its width. Hang it so the bottom edge sits 8 to 10 inches above the headboard.
Nightstand, dresser or shelf: 8x10
Above a twin or full bed: 18x24
Above a queen or king bed: 20x30 or 24x36
If the wall is wide and the bed is small, go bigger. A print that is too small floats on the wall and makes the room feel unfinished.
Prints for a calm bedroom
Mountain Lake is the bedroom piece. Pines, still water, mountains behind it. Ice is colder and quieter, for a room that should feel calmer than the rest of the house. Ocean nights is the one with weight: purple sky, dark water, a light out on the rocks. Give it the wall above the bed.
Questions about calm bedroom art
What makes wall art feel calming?
Low contrast, cool or muted color, and nothing in the frame that demands attention. Still water and open sky do this better than anything else I have found.
Do the prints come framed?
No. Prints ship unframed on matte paper, so you can choose a frame that suits your room.
Should bedroom art be landscape or portrait?
Landscape fills the wide space above a headboard best. Portrait works on a narrow wall beside the bed or above a nightstand.
Not sure which one?
