Entryway wall art
The entryway is the first wall anyone sees, including you, every single day. Most houses have one corner by the door that stays beige forever. It sets the tone for the whole house and nobody decides what that tone is.
This is where a piece should wake you up. Color that doesn't ask permission. An animal that holds the whole frame.
Which size for an entryway
Entryways are usually narrow, and people see them up close. You need less size than you think and more presence.
Console table or a small shelf by the door: 8x10
Narrow hallway wall: 18x24
The wall you face as the door opens: 20x30
Hang it at eye level, with the center about 57 inches from the floor. If it sits above a console table, keep the bottom edge 6 to 10 inches above the tabletop.
Prints for an entryway
Toucan is warm without being loud, deep tropical green with one bird carrying the frame. Roar of the Wild is the opposite: awe with an edge on it. I made it to remind myself what I'm capable of. It is a good thing to walk past on your way out the door.
Questions about entryway art
What kind of art works in an entryway?
One strong piece beats a cluster of small ones. People pass through, so the art has to land in a second. Bold color and a single clear subject do that.
Is a tiger too much for an entryway?
Only if you want the entry to disappear. If you want people to stop for a second when they walk in, it is exactly right.
Do the prints come framed?
No. Prints ship unframed on matte paper, so you can match a frame to your door, floor or trim.
Not sure which one?
