Large statement wall art
Every house has one wall that decides how the room feels. Usually it's above the couch. Sometimes it's above the bed. People fill it with three small things because one big thing feels like a risk.
One big thing is the move. A statement piece is the reason people look up when they walk in. It should hold the room on its own.
How big a statement piece should be
Aim for art about two thirds of the width of the furniture under it. Hang it so the bottom edge sits 8 to 10 inches above the back of the couch or the headboard.
Loveseat or full bed: 18x24
Standard couch or queen bed: 20x30 or 24x36
Wall with no furniture under it: 24x36, center about 57 inches from the floor
When in doubt, go bigger. A statement piece that is too small is the most common mistake I see.
Prints for a statement wall
Ocean nights is the hour at the coast when the sky stops behaving: purple over water, a light on the rocks, waves doing all the talking. It comes in 24x36, the biggest size in the shop. Roar of the Wild takes the wall it's on. That's the job.
Questions about statement wall art
What is a statement wall?
The one wall in a room your eye goes to first, usually behind the couch or the bed. One large piece of art usually anchors it better than a group of small ones.
Is 24x36 too big for my wall?
For a wall above a standard couch or a queen bed, no. Tape a 24 by 36 inch rectangle of paper to the wall first. Most people are surprised how right it looks.
Do the prints come framed?
No. Prints ship unframed on matte paper, so you can choose a frame that suits the room.
Not sure which one?
Send me a photo of the wall and I'll tell you which print and size belongs there. Email nick@nicktizzanoart.com.
